Meet Barbara J. Mason

Barbara enjoys freely expressing the magnificent abstract and intricate qualities of each subject that inspires her.  Pastels and Watercolors are among nature’s brightest and transparent examples of color. They allow her to create captivating combinations as they shift between high contrasts, complex compositions. Barbara feels as if nothing compares to capturing the magic in a still life painting, serenity of nature’s full light, or the crisp elegance of the waves reflecting the newly breaking sun, or the sultry charm hiding in shadows of a portrait or the harsh landscape against a gentle sky.  She combines hyper-realism with vibrant color and abstract forms to put a modern twist on the traditional classic images. With each layer of extraordinary detail and color detail, her intent is to capture the viewer’s curiosity and imagination as the paintings come alive on the surfaces. Each painting is a visual documentation of her journey as a painter.

Born and raised in the Midwestern United States she learned to appreciate the beauty and details in the smallest subjects. Growing up in an urban populated inner city she longed to see the open sky vista and vast ocean and landscape terrain. As an adult she began to travel and fulfill her childhood desire to explore, paint, experience areas around.  Barbara has traveled extensively all over the world to gain inspiration for her artwork. In addition to traveling throughout the United States, she has traveled to East Africa, Greece, Italy, France, Barcelona, Spain, Mexico, Turkey, British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Bermuda.
